Holmwood relying on Class One power

- RAYMOND GRAHAM STAR Writer

Holmwood Technical head coach, Dave Anderson, thinks his Class One athletes will play a very pivotal role in his team winning their 11th title at this year’s ISSA/GraceKennedy Girls’ Athletics Championships.

Throughout their dominant years, it was the Holmwood’s powerful Class One teams that propelled them to victories and Anderson believes his team will get quality points here.

“Definitely our Class One team is very solid and this is where most of our points will come from,” he stated.” I expect Colisha Taylor to lead the way for us here as I expect quality points from her in any event that she competes in. Taylor is a special athlete,” he said.

DYNAMIC ATHLETE

She made two national teams before she represented Holmwood as she went to the 2018 IAAF World Under-20 Championships and anchored the 4x400 metres team to a bronze medal and she was the Carifta Games Under17 champion that same year. “She (Taylor) is a dynamic athlete who can run anything from 400 to 1500 metres and is a very good intermediate hurdler but because of injuries she has not been preparing for this event and at this moment we have not decided on what she will run at Champs but once she remains healthy and any event she is called on she will do well,” Anderson said.

He continued: “I do really expect great things from our Class One Girls on a whole as I expect two in each event to be in the finals and score well and this class is really our flag bearer. They are the ones who normally come through as the young ones are a bit fragile sometimes and when your Class One stand up, you do have a good chance of going all the way.”

He also expects his 4x400M Open Relay team to continue their unbeaten run at Champs despite a scare from Edwin Allen at the recently held Gibson McCook Relays where they were strongly challenged on the final leg before holding on for a narrow win. “They have been mixing and moving all around this season and still they cannot find a team to beat us and despite not unbeatable, I do not expect them or any other team to beat us as Taylor is yet to run on the team. If we are to call on her, we will do so as her presence will make the team much stronger,” Anderson said.
