Edwards says it was tough beating BT further into relegation
Tivoli FC head coach Omar Edwards said it was tough watching his team beat his former club and community team, Boys’ Town, 3-0 in their Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) game on Wednesday, to deepen the ‘Red Brigade’ relegation troubles.
Edwards, who was an assistant coach of Boys’ Town for over 10 years, departed the club to take over the reins at neighbouring Tivoli Gardens last season.
But with Boys’ Town struggling at the bottom of the table with just one win and seven points after 14 matches heading into their derby game earlier this week, Edwards who had declared before the match that there would be “no favours”, said after the victory on Wednesday that it was difficult for him to beat his former club and put them further in the relegation quagmire.
“It is very difficult. At Boys’ Town things are not going right. However, here at Tivoli we have to play for points. This is a club that likes winning and this club backs winners, so if we are not getting results, then heads will have to roll. At Boys’ Town it is not the same, things are kind of easier for coach Price,” he said.
QUALITY PLAYERS
Edwards believes the Collie Smith Drive-based club can turn their season around if they can get in some quality players in January.
“I definitely wish them the best. I believe that in January if they open their windows and their doors to quality players, then they can at least move from the red zone. It is going to be difficult for them but it is not impossible,” he stated.
He also commended his team on the victory. “It was a good derby victory. We played against a very physical Boys’ Town team and we managed to score three goals, while defensively we were solid and managed not to concede any.”
