AS FAR as the east is from the west, so it was in terms of the quality difference between Cavalier and Rangers FC as the former made their place in the Jamaica Women’s Premier League (JWPL) Knockout competition official.

Following the 21-0 dismantling first-leg display from Cavalier, it could be said there was an improvement with Rangers only losing 6-0 yesterday at the UWIJFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence.

Sheyenne Bonnick was the chief destroyer, registering a hat trick with the first coming in the sixth minute.

Bonnick’s first notch on the scoresheet came when she made the right flank her own with a solo run to open the scoring.

The lead would be doubled in the 16th minute, as vice-captain Rena Gordon converted from close range, before Bonnick’s second in the 24th minute, split her brace, the second coming on the stroke of halftime.

Two second-half goals, Shahine Nelson in the 61st and Bonnick’s third in the 89th, completed the victory.

Head coach of the winning team, Everdean Scarlett, said the Rangers outfit, after the first leg, did their homework.

“The coach of the opposing team did his homework and realised that they couldn’t come and play an open game but it was still a matter of how many we were going to score. I think they came and played well,” said Scarlett.

AREA OF CONCERN

“In the first half we didn’t stick to the game plan but for the second half, we performed much better. The attack is an area of concern for us because we didn’t even register a shot on goal,” said Loxley Henry, coach of the Rangers team.

In the first leg of the second semifinal on the day, Olympic Gardens had to rely on a late goal from Carletta Savizon in the 88th minute, to leave matters all square in a four-goal thriller against Frazsiers Whip.

Olympic Gardens took the lead in the 17th minute through captain Stephanie Morgan’s penalty. Frazsiers Whip equalised in the 32nd through Latoya Duhaney before Tony Seaton’s superb free kick in the 43rd put them ahead.

Assistant coach of Olympic Gardens, Michael Peart, believes his team played one of its best games of the season.

“We are very pleased and happy that the girls really turned up and gave a good account of themselves, knowing that Frazsiers Whip are one of the favourites. Today was one of the best games that we’ve played.”

Head coach of Frazsiers Whip, Xavier Gilbert, said he was a disappointed with his team’s performance, but credited the performance of his opponents.

“Of course I’m disappointed that we didn’t come out with the win, but there’s a second leg. Credit must be given to the Olympic team to the way they played and how they asserted themselves in the game. As for us, we were a bit too complacent,” said Gilbert.
