Lowe gets good reviews as he finally starts life in MLS

- Daniel Wheeler/Staff Reporter

WITH GOOD reviews on his leadership on and off the field from the coaching staff of his new club Inter Miami, national defender Damion Lowe will finally get his chance to play in Major League Soccer (MLS) after a long wait.

Inter Miami will start their 2022 season today when they host the Chicago Fire at 6 p.m. at the DRV PNK Stadium. Lowe, 28, initially started his career in the United States when he was drafted by the Seattle Sounders in 2014. However, during his two years in the league, he did not make an appearance and was sent on loan during that period. He would leave for United Soccer League Championship team Tampa Bay Rowdies in 2017, the country’s second-tier, before moving to Europe that same year.

Lowe signed with Inter Miami in January and has already started to make an impression on the team and the coaching staff. After their pre-season game against Columbus Crew on February

Jason Kreis praised

Lowe’s leadership and hopes he can play a key part in the club’s bid to make the MLS play-offs for the second time in the franchise’s history.

“I think he was fantastic.

I’m really impressed with what he has brought to our team on the field, but also what he has brought to the team from an off-the-field sort of perspective with his leadership and his communication,” Kreis said.

As part of a squad that is mixed with experience and youth, Lowe says that he has been impressed with the team’s willingness to improve daily, and believes that the foundation is there to have a good season.

“They are young, vibrant, full of energy, with a good mixture of experience and youth. That goes a long way when you have that mixture. I can see the guys willing to learn. The willingness to learn is important when you are on a team. The guys want to work hard,”Lowe said. “If everyone can do that collectively, I think this season should be fun.”

Inter Miami made the play-offs in their MLS debut in 2020 but failed to qualify last season, finishing 11th in the Eastern Conference. Lowe says he feels that he can fit into the playing system of head coach Phil Neville and is looking to continue his evolution as a player, now having the chance to play in the league where his professional career started. “I’m a versatile player. I can adapt to my team, and whatever the coach asks of me I try to do it to the best of my ability, and that’s what I have to continue to do to improve as a player,” Lowe said.
