UWI students get $16 million in scholarships

-

NEW FORTRESS Energy (NFE), a global energy infrastructure company, has announced that 14 students at The University of the West Indies, Mona, have been awarded with scholarships to the tune of over J$16 million.

Among the recipients are recent graduates Rickel Williams, who completed her bachelor of science degree in civil engineering, and Gary McDonald, who received his bachelor of law degree with first-class honours and is now enrolled into the Norman Manley Law School, specialising in environmental law.

Expressing thanks, Williams, said; “I cannot thank New Fortress Energy enough for selecting me as one of their first scholarship recipients. Final year was particularly challenging for me, so this scholarship no doubt helped me focus more on my studies and less on my financial situation. I can safely say that today I’m a proud graduate, thanks to the support from New Fortress Energy.”

Echoing similar sentiments, McDonald, said; “Through the help of New Fortress Energy, I was able to complete the first leg of my studies and receive my LLB with first-class honours. I’m very grateful to have been selected to receive this well-needed scholarship, and I would like to express my gratitude to Mr Wes Edens and the company for believing in me.”

Meanwhile, Verona Carter, vicepresident of public affairs for New Fortress Energy, commended the students on their graduation, saying; “Congratulations to Rickel and Gary on this remarkable achievement. You’ve made your families, your school and us at NFE very proud.

“For us at New Fortress Energy, we are delighted to be partnering with the university to help these students, who are all brilliant top performers, reach their full potential. Fuelled by the vision of our chairman and founder, Wes Edens, we are committed to supporting education and helping to develop the next generation of innovators in Jamaica that will build a sustainable energy sector and competitive economy.”
