TO HAVE received his certificate of completion from the National College for Education Leadership (NCEL) Aspiring Principals Programme would have been one of the proudest moments of Clive Mohammed’s life. But fate would have it that he would die days before being rewarded with the certificate for which he worked nine months.

Mohammed, who was a viceprincipal at the José Martí Technical High School in St Catherine, died on June 1 after succumbing to an illness that he was battling.

However, mere days before his passing, he wrote to the leadership of the NCEL to express how grateful he was for the opportunity to have been involved in the programme.

“This programme has transformed my understanding of school leadership. It has empowered me to be a better leader. I have gained confidence, improved my relationships with my colleagues, and gained great skills at implementing programmes and change. Thank you, NCEL,” Mohammed wrote.

His wife, Latoya, who was at the graduation ceremony to collect his certificate on his behalf, yesterday told The Gleaner that her husband would have been proud as he was looking forward to completing the programme.

“I remember before he did the last assignment, he told me how weak he felt, but he pushed on because he was looking forward to it [graduating],” Latoya said of her late husband.

The widow said that she was proud of her husband’s achievement knowing that even in sickness, his determination to succeed was never dampened.
