No ‘Sankey’ no sing so
THE WEATHER gods were on Lanville ‘Sankey’ Henry’s side two Saturdays ago as rain pelted towns and communities around his annual birthday party venue, but left him untouched in Robin’s Bay, St Mary.
Not a single drop fell in Robin’s Bay, allowing the Arian and his friends who travelled from far and wide to celebrate the 41st anniversary of this much-anticipated calendar event.
The commitment to support this worthy cause was evident from as early as 2 p.m., when patrons began turning up for the scheduled event that runs until 10 p.m. Within two hours of the gates opening, the venue was alive as guests rocked to the sound of Allan Searchwell’s ‘Renaissance’, which had an A-list crew of DJs, including Clive Buddo, Craig Ross, Richie Clarke, Errol ‘Rock’ McGowan, Dean Styles, and Edi Edson from Kool 97 FM.
This was an authentic diaspora party, attracting visitors from New York, Atlanta, Miami, Toronto, Ottawa, London, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, and Cuba.
THE MENU
The spirits flowed freely from the wellstocked bars, and there was an abundance of curried goat, barbecued beef, jerked chicken and pork, seafood pasta, escoveitched pigtail, garlic crabs, escoveitched salt fish and fried plantains, fried sprat and bammy.
The vegetarians were not left out of this feast, and in addition to the soups which included mannish water, seafood and the favourite gumbo, they were fed a choice of fish, stew beans and other delights.
Among those attending were Carmen Brown, Clover Thompson, Paul Stewart, Anthea Bisasor, Peter Shand, Connie Chen, Cerina Percy, Cliff Cameron, Winston Barnett, Lois Spence, Winston Watson, Opal Bernard, Tony Gooden, Moira Delisser, Rosemarie Williamson, Trevor Riley, Marilyn Bennett, Monte Blake, Clement and Marva Bernard, Desmond Hutchinson, Cheryl Strachan, Clifton and Nola Todd, Candice Todd, Melvin Barnaby, Trevor Morris, Jeff Cobham, Lorna Cheong, Linda Leslie, Mark Anderson, Lowell Spence, Roxanne Maragh, Julie Fuller, Raymond Donaldson, and many more.
