1966:Wage The Minimum
Advisory Board for the printing trade unanimously agrees to recommend to the minister of labour the promulgation of higher wages already agreed on between the Master Printers’ Association, the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union and National Workers Union. The decision is taken at a meeting of the board at the Ministry of Labour. 1979:present Peter Thomas,
chairman of the Water Commission, makes the formal announcement of the merger of the Water Commission, which serves the Corporate Area, and the National Water Authority (NWA) to form the National Water Commission, and will be the chairman of the new body. Thomas, speaking at the launching of a national water conservation programme at a seminar at Alpart Sports Club in Nain, St Elizabeth, also says that Sydney Small, present general manager of the NWA, will be the general manager of the new body. 1980:Minister Deputy Prime
and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Hugh Shearer leaves Jamaica for Brussels, Belgium, to lead Jamaica’s delegation at a meeting of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Council of Ministers being held at the ACP headquarters. It will be Shearer’s first official trip abroad since his appointment. 1982:Edward Prime Minister
Seaga opens the formal signing session of the third United Nations conference on the Law of the Sea in Montego Bay, with a statement to delegates from over 100 countries that the convention is the only possible option that offers a universally acceptable legal regime which protects all interests. 1988:under An agreement
which Jamaica will get $106 million from the European Economic Community to import building materials and agricultural supplies is signed at Jamaica House by Prime Minister Edward Seaga. Slotted under the sectoral import programme for reconstruction, the funds are made up mainly of grants.
