Hydel hurricane sweep over JISA/Seprod Prep Champs
HYDEL PREP’S trophy cabinet is today bursting at the seams. The Ferry-based school has comprehensively swept 14 Jamaica Independent Schools Association (JISA)/Seprod Preparatory Athletics Championships in the last 16 years, their latest, yesterday, before a voracious National Stadium crowd.
The blue and yellow Hydel outfit, and head coach Corey Bennett, extended their unprecedented title wins to 10 on the trot, dating back to 2006.
They scored a whopping 219 points, while perennial challengers Vaz Prep ended second best with 193. 50 points.
“I am once again elated, and I am not trying to sound preachy, but all praise and glory to the master teacher of the Hydel Group of Schools, the Lord God, Almighty,” said the institution’s president, Hyacinth Bennett, yesterday.
Secondly, she lauded son and head coach Corey Bennett, and assistant Richard Johnson, among others.
VERY PROUD
“We are proud of the children, they worked hard, put out their best and enflesh our school motto: ‘Soaring upwards on the wings of excellence’,” Bennett stressed.
This year’s victory could be Hydel’s sweetest yet, as they are celebrated a double-figure win over Vaz.
Mona Prep with 153.50 was third, while Wolmer’s Prep tallied 104 for fourth, as Lanaman’s Prep rounded out the top five with 96 points.

Points literally rained like the showers from above for Vaz in the evening session, but it was not enough t o stop Hydel’s victory.
A total of 24 exciting finals were contested on yesterday’s third and final day. Mikhail Gordon and Timika Scarlett of Belair and Our Lady of the Angels Prep walked away as champion boy and girl, respectively.
