It could have been 50 and Daniel Sturridge might have had a hat-trick, but the Reds striker missed a penalty.
It leaves Brendan Rodgers’ team with 46 points from 23 games; at this stage last season, Liverpool had only 34 points. They have also netted 57 goals – only Manchester City have more – and that is a massive 17 goals more than they had from 23 games last term.
When the teams met at Anfield in October, Liverpool won 4-1 and Luis Suarez scored a hat-trick. But when they were last at The Hawthorns in the Barclays Premier League, last season, they suffered a 3-0 defeat and finished with 10 men after Daniel Agger was sent off.
On Wednesday, Albion had the short trip to neighbours Aston Villa and after nine minutes were 2-0 up, but went on to lost 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller. That leaves Albion with just one win in their last 13 league games and just two points clear of the relegation zone.
