Rotary changing lives

- – Written by Rotarian Michael S. Levitt Member of the Rotary Club of Cayman Sunrise

THE MEMBERS of the Rotary Club of Liguanea Plains (RCLP) live the words of a fellow Rotarian, Michael Levitt, who authored the Rotary poem, ‘I am a Rotarian’: I am a Rotarian Not because I was inducted as a member But because my heart beats with Rotary. I am a Rotarian And though I might make mistakes My mind is still engaged by Rotary. I am a Rotarian Not because I wear the pin But because my soul is at home in Rotary When Rotary weeps for the world’s children My cheeks are stained with tears When Rotary honours its elders My head is bowed in respect When Rotary mourns for the victims of this world My hands are joined in prayer When Rotary celebrates its triumphs My feet are alive with dancing. I am a Rotarian For the work we do takes my breath away And my hope for the future is bright. I am a Rotarian For other Rotarians greet me as family And teach me the meaning of community. I am a Rotarian For when I sleep easy at night It is because I know another Rotarian is taking care while I rest And our Foundation brings the world closer to peace, Understanding and free of polio When the work of Rotary beats in the wind My blood pulses to its rhythm And I become the essence of it When the colours of what we do dazzle in the sun My senses drinkin its rainbow And I become the palette of our work When the stories of Rotary echo round the fire My feet walk in its pathways And I become the footprints of its history. I am a Rotarian Because it has been the cradle of my rebirth And has given me so much wisdom. I am a Rotarian Because it is imprinted upon my heart And written in my soul. I am a Rotarian Because we will lead the world into tomorrow And I recognise the gifts Rotary has given me as sacred I am a Rotarian.
