President Herzog opens 18th WUJS conference
Kabbalah was one of the main topics this week at the 18th World union of jewish studies Conference in jerusalem, which opened on monday at the hebrew university on mount scopus with president Isaac herzog as the guest of honor.
The conference, which is being held through Wednesday, deals with a variety of topics, including the history of the jewish people in various times, archaeology, art, cinema, languages, psychology, demography, gender, education, and jewish and Israeli culture and society.
Kabbalah expert eduard shyfrin, a conference co-sponsor, spoke via Zoom on “Kabbalah of Information: absence of Information is Information.”
shyfrin, the phd author of From Infinity to Man: The Fundamental Ideas of Kabbalah Within the Framework of Information Theory and Quantum Physics, said Kabbalistic
ideas can be explained using the support of information theory and quantum physics, and that the riddles of modern science can be resolved.
shyfrin and World association of jewish studies president prof. moshe Idel will present a lecture on Wednesday evening on the Kabbalistic teaching of rabbi moses Cordevero. Winner of the Israel prize and the emeT prize, Idel has written 50 books on jewish mysticism.
The opening ceremony was attended by Idel along with hebrew university governor prof. menachem Ben-sasson, european association for jewish studies president prof. elizabeth hollander, and historian and association of jewish studies representative prof. lilach rosenberg-Friedman.
Wujs director dr. sara yanovsky said that thousands of researchers from Israel and abroad were meeting face-to-face after a long period in which lectures and meetings were presented remotely.
