Jagr nets pair to propel Panthers, moves into 3rd all-time

Jaromir Jagr continued his climb up the record books as he scored twice on Saturday to move into third place all-time on the NHL’s career goals scored list.

The 44-year-old Czech tied Brett Hull’s 741 goals in the second period then delivered his 742nd in the third when he tallied a loose puck in front of the net.

His scores helped the Florida Panthers take a 3-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets.

Playing in the 22nd season of his decorated career, Jagr now has 20 goals on the season and trails only Gordie Howe (801) and Wayne Gretzky (894) on the all-time list.

Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo earned his 25th win of the season with a 29 save effort while the Jets Michael Hutchinson took the loss after allowing all three goals on 32 Florida shots.

The Panthers improved to 2-2-1 on this six-game home-stand that will conclude Thursday against the Arizona Coyotes.

Capitals 4, Devils 3

Brooks Orpik scored with 3:58 left as Washington tallied twice in the final 6:05 to rally past New Jersey for its third straight win.

Orpik took a pass from Evgeny Kuznetsov and fired high past Cory Schneider from the left circle for his second goal of the season.

Reid Boucher gave New Jersey a 3-2 lead with 8:56 left in the game, but Washington’s T.J. Oshie tied it from his knees in the slot with 6:05 left when he back-handed the puck off a pair of Devils’ skates and into the net.

Flyers 5, Maple Leafs 4 (OT)

Shayne Gostisbehe­re scored 29 seconds into overtime as Philadelph­ia beat Toronto.

The Maple Leafs trailed 3-1 in the second period and battled back to take a 4-3 lead in the third only to have the Flyers tie it.

Lightning 4, Penguins 2

Tampa Bay’ Matthew Carle had a goal and an assist after going without a point all season and the Lightning finished off a season sweep of Pittsburgh.

Anton Stralman and Steven Stamkos and Tyler Johnson also scored as the Lightning went 3-0 against the Penguins, outscoring them 15-9 during their first such sweep since the 2006-07 season.

Bruins 7, Stars 3

Brad Marchand scored two goals and Tuukka Rask stopped 26 of 29 shots to help Boston beat Dallas.

Kevan Miller, Loui Eriksson, David Krejci, Brett Connolly and Matt Beleskey also scored for the Bruins, who finished their season-long six-game road trip at 4-2-0.

Kings 2, Predators 1 (OT)

Tanner Pearson scored on a wrist shot with 3:42 left in overtime, lifting Los Angeles to the win over Nashville.

The win ended the Kings’ three-game skid. Los Angeles’s overtime record improved to 11-4 and the Predators’ overtime record fell to 3-11.

Avalanche 3, Oilers 2

Colorado tightened its grip on a playoff spot by choking out Edmonton.

The Avs, who came into the game with a two-point lead for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference, increased it to four by shutting down the Oilers.

Tyson Barrie had two goals and an assist as the Avs handed the struggling Oilers their fourth straight home loss.
