An Arklow man had his case adjourned at last week’s sitting of Arklow District Court as he was unable to travel to Bray Courthouse.

Jamie Hughes (30) 17 Willow Grove, Dublin Road, Arklow faces charges of careless driving, driving without a licence, having no insurance, failing to produce an insurance certificate and failing to produce a driving licence within ten days at Templerainey, Arklow on May 22, 2019.

Solicitor David Tarrant told the court that the defendant was in Rosslare and had no transport to Bray. He wished to plead guilty to the charges.

Judge David Kennedy asked if the case could be dealt with in the defendant’s absence.

The prosecuting sergeant said Mr Hughes needed to be present in relation to the insurance charges.

Judge Kennedy adjourned the case to October 21.

A Wexford woman was fined for speeding at last week’s sitting of Arklow District Court.

Audrey FFrench (47) 5 Grange Meadows, Rosslare Strand, Co. Wexford faced charges of exceeding the motorway speed limit, having no insurance, failure to produce an insurance certificate, driving without a licence, failure to produce a NCT certificate, failure to produce a driving licence and failure to produce a driving licence at a garda station within ten days at M11 Ballyclogh South, Arklow on May 11, 2019.

The prosecuting sergeant told the court that the defendant had produced evidence of a driving licence and insurance. He asked Judge David Kennedy to dismiss these charges. Judge Kennedy also struck out the failure to produce a NCT certificate charge.

In respect of the speeding the court heard that at 6.55 p.m., gardai were carrying out a speed checkpoint at M11 Ballyclogh South, Arklow. A vehicle was recorded travelling at 146 km/h in a 120 km/h speed zone. Gardai stopped the car, which FFrench was driving. A fixed penalty notice was issued, but not paid. FFrench had no previous convictions.

Judge Kennedy imposed a fine of €200.
