- By MYLES BUCHANAN

TWO Wicklow schools had to act promptly during the week after students tested positive for Covid-19.

On Thursday, a number of pupils attending Wicklow Educate Together National School were sent home after a pupil tested positive for Covid-19. Pupils in the same bubble as the positive case were also sent home.

Moneystown NS also informed parents that a pupil had tested positive and the school was closed for two days, with pupils due to return today, Wednesday, September 16.

Pupils in the same bubble as the pupil who tested positive were referred for testing by the HSE and advised to stay home from school until Monday, September 21.

A statement released by the school thanked parents, pupils and staff for their understanding and said the safety of the whole school community was the number one priority.

TWO Wicklow schools reacted promptly after cases of Covid-19 were confirmed on both premises.

On Thursday a number of pupils attending Wicklow Educate Together National School on Hawkstown Road were sent home after a pupil tested positive for Covid-19.

In a memo sent to parents, Principal Sinead Watson said: ‘Please be advised that there has been a confirmed case of Covid-19 in WETNS. A public health risk assessment has taken place and all close contacts are being contacted and advised accordingly.’

Pupils in the same bubble as the pupil who tested positive were sent home until September 21 and contact tracing is in place.

The school declined to comment when contacted by the Wicklow People.

Parents of children attending Moneystown National School in Roundwood were contacted on Saturday and made aware that a pupil attending the school had tested positive.

Once the school received confirmation that one of their pupils had tested positive, they referred to the school’s Covid-19 Response Plan and followed all the guidelines offered by the HSE and the Department of Health.

The School’s Board of Management carried out a detailed risk assessment on Saturday afternoon and took the decision to close the school for two days on Monday and Tuesday. The school reopens today, Wednesday, September 16.

Pupils in the same bubble as the pupil who tested positive were referred for testing by the HSE and advised to stay home from school until Monday, September 21.

The school released a statement thanking parents and staff for their understanding.

‘The parents, staff and Board of Management of Moneystown National School have been incredibly supportive since our school reopened on August 27, but in particular over the past number of days. The slow response and inconsistent advice from outside agencies made an already difficult situation even more stressful and has made us fully aware of how dependent we are on our own small community to deal with this.

‘This weekend also brought to light the importance of being vigilant of even the slightest of symptoms of this virus and the importance of contacting your GP for advice.

‘The safety of our entire school community is our number one priority and we will continue to work together in this ever-evolving situation to try to stop the spread.’
