WEXFORD LADIES

We had a very busy week on the fairways, culminating with an absolutely marvellous Play in Pink Day on Thursday in aid of the National Breast Cancer Research Institute.

There was a wonderful display of all shades of pink, and a great sense of fun and camaraderie all around the course and the clubhouse all day and into the evening.

Thank you to everyone who turned out to play and to support such a worthwhile cause. A very special mention to all the gents who made such huge efforts to embrace their femininity! They were truly a sight to behold!

A very special thank you to all our kind and generous sponsors, without whom we would not be able to have such a lovely array of prizes. Our gratitude in particular for recent sponsors Joyces Expert, Fehily’s Pharmacy, Slice at Wexford Golf Club and Sinnott’s Bar.

Many thanks also to club stalwart Marie Byrne for her generosity and her astute adjudication skills for the ‘best dressed’ category in the Play in Pink competitions.

Congratulations to our wonderful Challenge Cup ladies on a fantastic win on Wednesday in a thrilling match against Enniscorthy. It could not have been closer - the points were level pegging and it went all the way to a countback.

The team comprised Liz Butler, Bernie Duffy, Martina Flynn, Kathleen Murphy and Clodagh Williams, while Catherine Berney, Anne Dunne and Róisín Leahy were in reserve.

The team manager was our lady Captain, Deirdre Colfer. Well done all. They will now go on to meet Courtown in the next round and we wish them continued success.

Our Mixed Foursomes will be in action against Mount Juliet on Wednesday, July 3. We have two teams at home and they will tee off from 4 p.m. All support will, as usual, be much appreciated.

Best of luck also to our Senior Foursomes who will play their Leinster quarter-final against Tullamore on Saturday, July 6 in Abbeyleix.

Our lady Captain Deirdre Colfer’s day will be over two competition rounds of 18 holes each on Thursday and Sunday, July 4 and 7. The timesheets are filling up, so get your names down without delay.

We wish Deirdre a memorable and sporting occasion and we will all retire to Slice @ Wexford Golf Club for the lady Captain’s dinner and prize-giving on Sunday evening.

ST. HELEN’S BAY LADIES

Our team comprising Georgina Darling, Ann Byrne, Trina Cooney, Collette Mellon, Janet Slattery and Susan Fitzgerald played in the Leinster Women’s Trophy against Powerscourt on Tuesday.

It was a cracking match with a nail-biting finish! The three home matches were in the bag and it all came down to the last match and the last hole in Powerscourt where we were down two.

Susan, however, was ice cool on the 18th, and with nerves of steel won that all-important half point to make the final score 3.5 to 2.5.

It was a superb win for the team and takes us into the final 16 in the Leinster Region. Huge congratulations to all our ladies. They sure did us proud.
