NCW-Esturary too strong for Killorglin

-

MUNSTER CLUB UNDER 18 CONFERENCE 2 Killorglin 3 Newcastle West-Estuary 27

THE score line doesn’t really reflect the excellent performance that the Killorglin lads gave in this game.

Despite the fine individual displays by many of the home side Newcastle West-Estuary were that little bit more clinical in their execution and were able to find the scores when it mattered. Killorglin’s cause wasn’t helped by having only 14 players togged out and Newcastle West Estuary took full advantage of their numerical superiority.

Newcastle West Estuary were the first to strike and went over for a try after 20 minutes.

Jack Evans kept Killorglin in the game with a penalty to see the hosts trailing by 5-3 at half-time. Killorglin stayed with Newcastle West Estuary for a large portion of the second half but as fatigue set in the visitors struck for three well worked tries to put the result beyond doubt.

Abbeyfeale 16 Killarney 0

KILLARNEY travelled to the Grove last Saturday but came up short against a very physically imposing and skilful home side.

Killarney held an advantage in the early scrums and pounded the Abbeyfeale line only to come up short. A penalty attempt also sailed just wide as the visitors continued to pile the pressure on. Abbeyfeale’s first foray into the Killarney half reaped rich dividends when Gearoid Scannell crashed over after a good move off a line out. Killarney lifted themselves but despite their best efforts they failed to get a score in the first half.

Abbeyfeale were the better side in the second half and added two penalties , as well as a try from Aodhan Cotter. Killarney continued to press but the Abbeyfeale defence stood firm. Killarney can take solace from their overall display and are sure to learn from playing at such a high level.

MUNSTER CLUB UNDER 16 CONFERENCE 2 Castleisland 10 Abbeyfeale 19

ABBEYFEALE defeated a fancied Castleisland team on their home patch after a powerful display.

The home side were in the game for long periods and scored tries from Denis Horan and Pat Fitzgerald but Abbeyfeale had too much in the tank and were deserved winners.

MUNSTER CLUB UNDER 16 CONFERENCE 2 Killorglin 12 Killarney 17

KILLARNEY got off to the best possible start in this game when Cormac Rowe crossed in the corner for their opening try after a sustained period of pressure. Try number two came shortly afterwards when Mikey Moriarty pierced the Killarney cover to touch down.

Killorglin needed a response and it came just before half time when number 8 Adam Casey carried hard, and when the ball eventually found Donnacha Crowley he made no mistake and scored a good try to leave the half time score at 10-5.

Killarney were first off the mark in the second half when Cormac Rowe touched down for the second time and with Dara Looney adding the conversion they pushed into a 17-5 lead. Killorglin refused to wilt and Tom Garry found Eoghan Joy for a converted try to leave them just a single score behind.

The remainder of the game was played in a helter skelter fashion, but Killarney had done enough to secure the win.
