Novohal edge out Currow in 6/8 Teacher final

6/8-TEACHER FINAL Novohal NS 2-9 Currow NS 1-9

THIS 6/8-Teacher final was another tremendously exciting encounter between two evenly matched teams who had top performers within their ranks Eoin Moriarty, Ben O’Keeffe, Jorge Garcia, Jill Quirke and Mairtín McKivergan were to the fore throughout for the winners while Currow had top performers in captain Daniel McCarthy, Conor Clifford and the towering midfielder Ruairí Brosnan.

The sides were level on four occasions in the opening period of the first half as the score was evenly poised at 0-5 each mid way through. Nohoval struck for two points to take the lead but more importantly the closed off all avenues to their own goal and thus denied their opponents finish off some very promising moves.

However, it was the two goals which they rattled in just before half time that proved crucial. They first a typical poaching forward effort as a loose ball was finished to the net by classy full forward Mairtín McKivergan and Mairtín nailed a fantastic second effort just on the stroke of half time to see his side lead at the break 2-7 to 0-5.

There was very little between these sides and Currow stormed back into contention in the second half as Nohoval placed greater emphasis on defending and only registered two second half points.

On this occasion it was enough, even though Currow captain Daniel McCarthy burst through for a great team goal and the outstanding Ruairí Brosnan brought his personal tally to nine points, all from well kicked frees as he was fouled for most of them.

Still, the all important much needed second goal didn’t materialise for Currow, and Scoil Nuachabháil claimed the title on a 2-9 to 1-9 final scoreline to the delightful cheers of their supporters.
