The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)

Our right to vote is sacred and shouldn’t be treated lightly

-

SIR,

You’re right to vote is your democratic right to decide who you wish to vote for.

This right has been won with the blood of our forefathers and yet in the Dáil it is being treated with utter distain. That those in politics should hold this right in such a frivolous manner is beyond contempt. The safety of this right has shown to be totally unprotected in its misuse by others. The safety of the electronic voting method has shown to be totally flawed.

This throws open the questioning of all past decisions that have been voted for previously. In fact, all of these decisions should be declared null and void. What this does to past decisions is irrelevant compared to what could happen in the future, especially with Brexit still running.

The decision to allow voting only when all deputies are present means that little voting will take place as they seldom are all there for one reason or another.

After all, Joe Dolan’s car is still breaking down and he is dead and buried.

What will happen to those who have abused this voting method?

Indeed, for how long has this been going on? Will it be found inevitably that many have misused this method of voting in the past.

It could take a long, long time to clear this up. In the meantime, electronic voting should be disconnected until a foolproof method is found.

Our vote is sacred, our right to decide also. Let nothing stand in the way to prevent this, otherwise disaster follows, Sincerely,

Michael O’Meara,

Faha,

Killarney.
