STEPS TO HEALTH

Just over a week ago Duagh/ Lyre steps to health received their gold standard award in Athlone, just one of eight area’s nationwide achieving the gold standard. This is a testament to the steps to health team and all of our participan­ts, parents, supporters and committee. Well done everyone, we are continuing with this project for 2019.

U16 BOYS BASKETBALL

Well done to the U16 Duagh/ Lyre Basketball team today taking part in the County Community Games competitio­n. This team were a young side with the majority of the team in age again next year. Duagh/Lyre won the first game against Spa/Fenit/Barrow, lost the second to finalists Currow/Curran’s who were beaten in final in extra time by a point. Our team did very well, we are so proud of your efforts. Team: Eli Fitzgerald, Mark Joy, Eoghan Dowling, Mike Galvin, Mikey Kelly, Jack Moloney, JD Cotter and Fearghal Cudlipp. Coach: Ruth O’Keeffe

Training continues every Monday night at Duagh NS 7-8 for U10 and 8-9 for U12&14’s.

ART

Duagh/Lyre Community Games will be holding their local art competitio­n on Friday 1st Feb at Duagh NS from 7pm - 9pm. The competitio­n is open to U8U16 boys and girls. Art pieces are adjudicate­d outside the Duagh/ Lyre committee. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for a list of titles for those over 8 years -- Hurdles, Group Music, Model Making, Pitch and Putt, Futsal, Cycling on grass, discus, duathlon and gymnastics.

GIRLS INDOOR SOCCER U10

Best of luck to the U10 indoor soccer team taking part on Saturday in the County competitio­n in Duagh sports complex. Time to be confirmed.

SWIMMING

Good luck to those representi­ng Duagh/Lyre in swimming next Sunday at Tralee sports complex. U8&10 start time at 10am, check in for 9.30. The opening time for anybody interested is 11am.

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK

Bishop Ray Brown has announced this week as Catholic Schools Week and the event is to celebrate the work of local catholic schools in the county.

DARTS

The winners of the darts in Parker’s Lounge Bar , Kilflynn on Saturday 26th January were Darragh Mulvihill and Denis Hobbert who defeated Dermot Ryan and J.P Twomey in the Final. The winners received a leg of lamb each. The next darts doubles tournament takes place on Saturday 2nd February at 10.30p.m in Parker’s Lounge Bar. The winners will receive a leg of lamb each. to claim the public vote prize. Well done Kathleen!

ST. BRENDANS AC

This Wednesday evening is the big evening for primary school pupils as the primary schools indoor sports will be held in Causeway hall from 6pm to 8pm. All classes from first to sixth will be catered for. Details have been sent to the schools.

Well done to Eimear O’Sullivan who got a brilliant bronze medal for her school, Pres Tralee in the intermedia­te grade in the North Munster Schools cross country championsh­ips in Limerick last week. Also in the medals was Daisy Nowak who was a silver medal team scorer at junior level with her school, Mercy Mounthawk.

Aaron Malik and Darragh Courtney represente­d the club at the national junior indoor athletics championsh­ips in Athlone on Sunday. Aaron vaulted 2.90m in the pole vault and jumped 5.90m in the long jump while Darragh cleared 1.80m in the high jump. Unfortunat­ely they didn’t make the podium but the performanc­es are full of promise for later in the season.

Moira Horgan and Conor Walshe were honoured in the Tralee parkrun on Saturday and Sunday. Your contributi­on as always was very much appreciate­d.

RAMBLING HOUSE

Husband of Theri (nee Doyle), father of Ian, Barry and Gerry. Also survived by daughters-inlaw Deirdre, Joanne and Moira, grandchild­ren Sophie, Daniel, Harry, Ben, Aisling, Caitlin, Laura, Ava and Alec, sister Peg, nephews and nieces. Requiem Mass was celebrated for Michael on Wednesday, 23rd January, in the Church of the Holy Spirit, Greenhills. Funeral after to Newlands Cross Cemetery.
