BADMINTON

BLESSING

We held our Annual Tournament on Sunday 20thin the Community Centre where nearly 80 players from all parts of the county turned up to play. First up was Div 5 where after many close battles the final came down to our own Ann Leahy and her partner from Causeway Pauric Murray defeated Alan O’Halloran and his partner also from Causeway Danielle Robinson by 24 - 22 in the third set. They were the first recipients of the new Mark Reidy perpetual shield. In the plate final Cindy Moriarty and partner defeated Adrian Kenny and partner in another close final. This competition was kindly sponsored by Purchase.ie.

In the div 4 final Josie Gilbert teamed up with Causeways Padraig Barrett to win the AOH Valeting sponsored mixed final. In the plate Siobhan Colbert and partner were the winners.

The div 3 competition was sponsored by Ballyheigue Castle Golf Club and our only entrant was Paula O Sullivan and she was runner up in the final.

Many thanks to the organizers, volunteers, caterers, sponsors and to Joann and her staff in the Community Centre.

Munster Championships great success for Edel Kenny in capturing the Munster Ladies doubles title and just missing out in the ladies singles final. And a well done also to Ruth Concannon who reached the final of the Munster Junior Ladies Doubles.

This year’s county championships got under way in Killarney where once again Edel added the ladies div 1 singles title to her long list of successes. The div 5 Plate competition saw a unique situation where the two Reidy brothers contested the final with Aidan, for once getting the better of brother Kyle. Patrick at a young age spent a lot of his youth in Bridge Street in Ballylongford with his grandparents, uncle John auntie Lizzy and also Auntie Nora in Tarbert a community he dearly loved and cherished all his life. His late father Pat Joe and mother Lilly, spent over 40years in England before returning home to retire, but Patrick and his sister Marie stayed in the U.K. where they married and settled in England with both families visiting Lislaughtin on a regular basis to see their parents and visit family relatives. He was a devoted husband to Pam the love of his life, and a loving father to son Lee and daughter Kelly and doted on his grandchild Millie. He maintained a very close relationship with his nephews, nieces, and family relatives who he was very much loved by. Patrick will be sadly missed and deeply regretted by his wife Pam, his loving mother Lilly, son Lee, daughter Kelly, granddaughter Millie, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, family relatives and a large circle of friends and neighbours in both Ireland and England. His mother Lilly would like to thank all of her family, neighbours and friends for their support at this very sad time. Funeral will take place at a later date in England. May he Rest in Peace.
