Fifth for Brosnan
seasons, and while he has performed superbly with the Kerry seniors and Dr Crokes in the county and Munster championship in the few months, the half back was immense throughout the O’Donoghue Cup and was duly rewarded for his performances.
The Intermediate Championship (Fr Galvin Cup) Footballer of the
Year was awarded to Anthony Sweeney who was Listry’s outstanding player in their run to winning that competition.
On the 2018 All Star team itself there were four first time winners with Jason Lyne and Micheal heal Burns of Dr Crokes collecting their first awards, while Kilcummin pair Gary O’Leary and Matt Keane were also honoured for the first time.
Perhaps the biggest applause went to Eoin Brosnan ( pictured) who collected his fifth All Star award, going all the way back to the inaugural awards in 2010 when he won his first. Subsequent All Stars in 2011, 2013 and 2015 are testament to Brosnan’s longevity and consistency with his club, as well as his dedication to the O’Donoghue Cup, in which he won his 12th medal in December. The veteran Dr Crokes man, who has performed to the highest level as a defender, midfielder and forward, is now just one All Star behind all-timtime record holder AidaAidan O’Mahony who stastands alone with six EaEast Kerry All Stars.
Daithi Casey cocollected his fourth AlAll Star award, while his Dr Crokes team mamates Shane Murphy, John Payne, Fionn FitzgerFitzgerald, Brian Looney and Kieran O’Leary were all awarded an All Star for the third time. Murphy won his first All Star in 2012 with Kilcummin before he transferred to Dr Crokes.
Gavin White, Jordan Kiely, Michael Joe Kelliher and Mark Ryan were all winning their second award on Saturday, and interestingly Rathmore midfield Mark Ryan was the only member of the 2017 All Star team to be named on the 2018 team.
