A Star launch for Fenit Coastal Cycle 2019
CYCLISTS around the county are already gearing up for the seventh annual Fenit Coastal Cycle, which takes place in just under two months’ time.
The cycle takes place on Saturday, March 23, and the event will raise funds for St Brendan’s National School in the village.
While St Brendans NS will be the main beneficiary, a portion of the monies raised will also go to the Kerry Hospice Foundation’s Palliative Care Unit fund.
As an added incentive to take part, all registered participants on the day will be in with a chance in winning a bike valued at €1,000, which is sponsored by David O’Sullivan Cycles in Killarney and Listowel.
This fun and challenging cycle is open to clubs, groups and individuals.
Cyclists have a choice between 60km or 25km routes, and there will also be a 10km route for younger cyclists.
This event is billed as an ideal opportunity for cyclists to start their preparations for the Ring of Kerry Cycle and other cycling events during the summer.
Organisers said that the two main routes have been chosen to highlight the spectacular surroundings of Fenit, Ardfert, Ballyheigue, Kerryhead and Barrow, with stunning views of Mount Brandon, Tralee and the Shannon Estuary to be enjoyed by the cyclists as they make their way around north Kerry.
The organisers will be providing safety management, roadside assistance, support vehicles, light food and refreshments at St Brendan’s National School.
The participation fee for the event is €25, and this registration process will take place at St Brendan’s National School, Fenit, from 8am to 10.15am on the morning of the event.
The organisers are urging as many people as possible to take part in what promises to be a great start to Kerry’s 2019 cycling season.
