Smile... Botox is back in a big way

-

IT’S the big freeze of a different sort as Botox is back – with cosmetic consultants experiencing a surge in demand for non-surgical treatments.

The marked increase in clients eager to smooth out those wrinkles has been noted by two of the country’s leaders in the field, Dr Patrick Treacy and Dr Altona Myers, who operate separate clinics in Dublin and across the country.

Dr Treacy, who was a consultant of choice for Michael Jackson, recently expanded his bespoke clinic at the David Lloyd Riverview Fitness Centre in south Dublin. He told the Irish Mail on Sunday: ‘We are booked to mid-September.’

And while he is welcoming back his pre-pandemic clients, he has also seen a whole new wave of Botox newcomers.

‘Business has increased by about 25% to 30%,’ he said. Dr Treacy added that more people are opting for injectables due to ‘issues related to mask wearing’ and lifestyle issues like fatigue, sleep loss.

He also attributed the spike in business to the rise in video work conferencing, Dr Treacy told the MoS: ‘When we reopened a few months ago, everyone mentioned the Zoom phenomenon.’

This is echoed by Dr Altona Myers, who has Facial Rejuve clinics in Dublin and

Killarney. She has also reported a surge in appointments. She said: ‘We have two doctors and two skin therapists completely booked up until mid-July. We’re seeing anywhere from 300 to 350 clients per month.’

She attributes the rise in demand to people’s fears that clinics may be shuttered again in the future, but also because they have more money to spend after lockdown.

She said: ‘We have definitely seen an increase in the combination treatments such as Profhilo and Botox. I think a lot of people who were lucky enough to keep their jobs throughout the pandemic have more disposable income now.’
