EUROVISION star Linda Martin said ‘Why NOT Me?’ when she opted to undergo cosmetic surgery on her breasts that has given her life a little lift.

The singer’s music career took off when she won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1992 with beltout ballad Why Me?

And almost four decades on from her Eurovision debut in 1984, singing Terminal 3, Linda is still a much in-demand artist at home and abroad.

It is in part due to her to enduring showbusiness career that Linda decided to go under the knife to have breast surgery, and she says women at all ages and stages should have some sparkle in their lives.

‘I had been considering having my boobs lifted for some time,’ the 68-year-old told the Irish Mail on Sunday.

‘Quite frankly, I was fed up spending money on expensive push-up bras which weren’t giving me the effect I wanted.

‘Also wearing backless dresses that I love so much on stage just weren’t flattering anymore and I really believe that on stage we have to sparkle.’

Like many women in the public eye, Linda’s appearance is often critiqued, in contrast to that of her male counterparts. And she says women having a little nip, tuck or lift is now the norm. In fact, it was to some female friends she went for advice.

‘I spoke to a few girl friends who had similar issues and various procedures done,’ she reveals.

Linda then explored her options and clinics and settled on a clinic in Wicklow that had come highly recommended.

‘The consensus of opinion was that the Avoca Clinic was one of the best. So I booked in a consultation as I wanted to be fully informed of all the details around all of the options available to me,’ she said. ‘The trained staff talked me through the procedure I wanted in great detail and answered all my questions patiently and efficiently – so much so that my misgivings were replaced with a feeling of “Yes, I’m doing the right thing.”

‘To be honest, it’s not easy talking about your body parts but they put me at my ease.’

Linda opted to have a breast lift with a small implant to give her the extra lift and sparkle she so sought.

The Avoca Clinic says it is performing some 60 body-enhancing surgeries a month on Irish women. Avoca clinical director Ailish Kelly said regardless of age or stage in life, women are eager to have a lift and a tuck to give their lives and shapes a little perk.

‘It’s a very popular procedure as the aging process has a huge effect on the breasts – gravity for one and, of course, menopause is also a factor,’ she says.

‘Interestingly enough, a lot of patients, regardless of age, who lose a lot of weight will need this operation to get the breasts back nice and perky again.

‘At the moment the “mummy makeover” is huge; breasts and tummy together… And it’s not only for “mummies”, it’s for anyone that wants to redefine their body shape.’

Linda underwent the procedure in a private Dublin hospital after the first lockdown was lifted and the country and hospitals has returned to a relatively normal pace.

The glamorous singer is now seven weeks on from her surgery and is singing from the rooftops such is her joy at the transformation to her figure.

‘I had a private room with a team of nurses looking after me,’ she says.

‘I was prepped for the operation and I woke up a few hours later feeling a bit groggy and dying for a cup of tea. I had no pain whatsoever.

‘Two days later I was home feeling absolutely fine. I took it easy for a few days afterwards. I didn’t lift anything heavy.

‘Already I could see the difference in my shape. I didn’t want huge boobs, all I wanted was a perky shape and that was achieved perfectly with a very small implant.

‘Seven weeks later I’m truly delighted with the result.’

And while some prefer to keep their surgeries or other cosmetic procedure under wraps, Linda says women owe it to themselves to look and feel wonderful, as she urged other women to take the leap.

‘I believe we women owe it to ourselves to look fabulous,’ she says.

‘We all lose our shape thanks to the curse of gravity, having children and so on.

‘So, ladies, if your tummy, boobs or anything else is bothering you, don’t hesitate – just go for it.’

‘It’s a very popular procedure’
