Thanks, Saoirse, now we’ll do your nails free for life!

SAOIRSE RONAN will be expected to have perfectly manicured nails if she does – as is widely expected – win a Golden Globe.

And her favourite nail bar, Dublin’s Tropical Popical, has said that Saoirse can have ‘free nails for life’ after she mentioned the salon on the Ellen DeGeneres Show last week.

Speaking to the Irish Mail on Sunday, salon owner Andrea Horan said it was a huge boost to her business. But she was also over the moon for her celebrity client Saoirse, who was nominated for her role in the movie Brooklyn. ‘Of course she can have free nails for life,’ said Andrea. ‘It would be a bit scabby not to,’ she laughed. As fate would have it, Saoirse was visiting Tropical Popical on South William Street when she got the call to say she had been nominated for a Golden Globe. She was in the middle of having her nails painted gold for the Christmas season just as the call came through.

Saoirse was with her mother Monica, who was ‘absolutely delighted’ when the actress revealed the exciting news.

‘Her mother was just thrilled. She jumped up and gave her the biggest of hugs. We ran out and got some champagne to celebrate with her,’ said Andrea.

And the accommodating nail bar acted as an ad hoc media room for the day as Saoirse set herself up in a corner to take calls from the world’s press.

‘We set her up in a corner and she just took call after call,’ said Andrea.

The Ellen show called Tropical Popical last week to ask if they could use the picture of Saoirse having her nails done. But the salon wasn’t prepared for the huge plug that the actress gave them.

Andrea said: ‘They called and were like: “We’re calling from The Ellen Show, can we use that picture?” But when we saw it I just couldn’t believe that she mentioned the salon.’

Andrea told the MoS that she was at a wake when the clip aired and she tried to remain as dignified as she fielded calls as her phone lit up. ‘I was at a wake, and my phone was hopping,’ she said.

Saoirse has been a client of Tropical Popical for over a year-and-a-half and her favourite nail technician, Chloe, revealed that the gold was her idea. ‘She wanted something Christmassy but not red. So I suggested the gold glitter,’ revealed Chloe. ‘She has been coming to me for over a year now. She is so lovely. She is really unassuming and down to earth. She really deserves this.’
