The bun that got away as Farrell ex sets up a food blog
SHE was the pretty Trinity student who was meant to be ‘the one’ for actor Colin Farrell – but now Muireann McDonnell is making a name for herself as a leading baking blogger.
And she could be ‘the one that got away’ for Farrell, as The Diary can reveal that Dubliner Muireann is now married and has a young baby.
Farrell, who was among Hollywood’s hottest property when they dated in 2007, caused surprise when he began dating shy science student Muireann.
They dated for around a year and were photographed splashing around in a swimming pool and out together in Dublin and LA. The low-key couple shunned the limelight in favour of walks in Dalkey. Muireann never spoke about her relationship with Colin.
The 29-year-old has now launched a cooking blog, The Rock Bun, and regularly posts recipes and baking tips. Muireann describes herself on the blog as a ‘geologist who bakes’, and writes about tying the knot and becoming a mother.
She describes meeting her husband at a performance of Swan Lake in Dublin in 2010. ‘I really wanted to go but I couldn’t convince any of my friends of the deadliness of ballet, even Swan Lake. However, my eldest sister just so happened to know someone who often frequented such haunts. That’s how I found myself a husband.
‘Another masters later and we were married. Eight months later I started cooking Tomás [the couple’s son].’
When Farrell was dating Muireann, he described her in an interview as ‘the one’. He added at the time: ‘It’s easy to find girls, but it’s not easy to find the right one.’
