Arrest in Limerick after body discovery

- By Debbie McCann

A WOMAN has been arrested by gardaí investigating the discovery of a man’s body in a garden in Limerick on Friday.

The woman, who was known to the victim, was arrested yesterday evening and is being detained at Henry Street Garda Station.

Amateur marathon runner Michał Rejmer had been missing for 10 days before his body was discovered in the back garden of the house he shared with his ex-girlfriend and another man.

Mr Rejmer, 38, originally from Radom in central Poland, was found by a friend beneath a plastic sheet, two wooden pallets and bags of turf.

The man who made the discovery on Friday morning had been part of a search party looking for the athlete. He immediately contacted gardaí and a murder investigation quickly got under way.

Mr Rejmer, who worked at McDonald’s in Castletroy near his home, had lived at the property in the quiet Limerick estate for several years.

Detectives at Henry Street received an official report of Mr Rejmer’s disappearance on January 6, but he had not been seen since December 30.

His employer raised the alarm when he did not show up for work the following day. It is believed he asked his manager at the McDonald’s restaurant in Castletroy if he could leave early on December 30.

Mr Rejmer was an athlete with Dooneen Athletic Club. He also enjoyed boxing and is pictured with Mike Tyson on his Facebook page.

Supt Derek Smart said that gardaí are carrying out houseto-house inquiries.
