Nicola is all loved up in Mayo (but broken up in Chelsea)
On-screen spat with Made In Chelsea bad boy Alex hasn’t ended the romance
MADE In Chelsea couple Nicola Hughes and Alex Mytton enjoyed a romantic New Year’s Eve together in the West of Ireland – despite apparently breaking up during last week’s episode.
The couple have a fractious relationship and have had numerous on-screen rows. But off-screen they are happier then ever, with Alex flying from London to mud-soaked Mayo so the pair could ring in 2016 together.
Nicola posted a picture of Belmullet with the accompanying caption: ‘Who needs Barbados when you’ve got Mayo?’
At the same time, Alex posted a selfie of himself with the scenic Mayo mountains in the background.
Nicola’s reference to Barbados could be a nod to Alex’s former flame, Jessica Woodley, who did fly to Barbados for the New Year.
In fact, many cast members of the Channel 4 reality show have been pictured in sunny Barbados over the last week, which could mean Made In Chelsea is currently filming in the Caribbean island.
Lucy Watson was also pictured arriving at the airport in Barbados with her boyfriend, James Dunmore, in tow.
While Made In Chelsea is based in London, the cast are often filmed in glamorous overseas locations to showcase their jetset lifestyle.
But despite living with Alex, Nicola has not been invited to film in any of these overseas locations. During the past year Alex has flown out with the rest of the cast to LA and Ibiza – but without Nicola.
On last week’s show, the couple had a massive row over Jessica – who is possibly the subject of the Dublin model’s reference to Barbados – and seemed to break up.
Nicola had told Alex that she didn’t want him talking to Jessica any more – she has already been the source of many arguments between the couple.
But Alex, clearly unhappy at the constant bickering, told Nicola at the very end of the episode that he wanted a break. The blonde beauty, who was wearing a masquerade mask, walked off in tears after Alex told her he thought they should have some time apart.
But it seems that a week really is a long time in showbiz, as the couple eschewed the limelight for a quiet New Year’s together. In fact they kept their Mayo visit quite low key, with sources revealing that they enjoyed a Chinese meal together and headed to the local pub for a few drinks.
Nicola is a regular visitor to Mayo, and London boy Alex also seems to have become fond of the picture-perfect county, visiting a few times over the past year with Nicola.
The couple first met more than a year ago when he was performing a DJ set in a Kildare nightclub. And despite their on-screen rows, Nicola appears to have tamed the show’s former badboy.
Alex had previously dated another Made In Chelsea cast regular, Binky, whom he cheated on numerous times. But he is a smitten kitten for Nicola, and they moved in together just a short time after they began dating.
Since she has graced the screen on the popular reality show, Nicola has seen her profile soar. She recently guest presented on Xposé and is hotly tipped to take a presenting role on RTÉ’s proposed magazine show Bounce.
Nicola grew up in south Dublin where she started modelling for agency Assets at 16 and attended fee-paying Alexander College. She says the school was a great training ground for the back-stabbing, hair-flicking cold-shouldering that passes for fun on Made In Chelsea: ‘Alexandra College definitely gave me a tough shell, all-girls’ schools are quite bitchy,’ she said.

The couple have a fractious relationship
