Rescue unit benefits from Tom’s birthday bash

-

Turning the 50th year in life is a milestone in anyone’s life and also an opportunity to celebrate for family and friends.

Recently Tom Aherne of the Wagon Bar hit the mile marker of 50 years young. And in doing so he made contact with the Blackwater Search and Rescue Unit asking could he do some form of fundraiser for the unit to mark the event. A new and novice was to receive support the unit was delighted to be recognised by Tom.

For the build-up to the day itself Tom set himself a challenge in walking 50 kilometres in the week building up to the party. Utilising the facilities at St Colman’s College Walk, Tom started the laps of the walk, inviting his friends and family to join him on his journey each morning and evening all the while promoting and recording his daily total. The highlight of Tom’s walks was when he was joined by the teachers and children of Fermoy Montessori School who kept up the pace on the morning. Well done to Siobhan and gang especially the younger walkers. With support coming in to Tom’s fundraiser both financially and word of support the 50 kilometres was completed well in advance of the party. Held at his bar on Saturday night with a full house of family and friends a great night was all.

Tom made contact with the unit early on Sunday morning hoping that some members could arrange to call and he could present the contributions raised for this project to the unit. Members were delighted to turn out and so on Sunday evening Tom presented the Blackwater Search and Rescue Unit with a staggering amount of €3,275. On behalf of the officers and members of Blackwater Search and

Rescue Unit, we would like to thank Tom for this tremendous support. Happy birthday Tom and thank you.
