The Avondhu

Ladies AGM this week

-

We come to that time of year again, when as we begin to begin to put 2023 to bed, we begin to plan for 2024.

And so – ladies first – the AGM of the ladies club takes place on Friday next, 10th November at 7.30pm. We hope for a good attendance and look forward to a sharing of ideas for 2024 ladies golf by those in attendance. The ladies enjoyed a successful year, under the captaincy of Aileen Dennehy ably assisted by her committee and the support of the parent club committee. Again, this year saw an increase in lady membership.

Unfortunately, we did not experience the best of weather in the latter part of the year but hope springs eternal - we must always show optimism. While relaxing with the radio in the background this morning we realised with relief that within the next seven weeks the daylight hours will begin to lengthen, Christmas and New Year will then come and go and our next golfing year will dawn.

LADIES NOTES

We had a very successful get together on Sunday afternoon, where we had a 6-hole Tigers and Rabbits scramble. We were unlucky to get some showers, but the event was enjoyed by all, and we warmed up in the clubhouse afterwards with refreshments for our presentation. Thank you to all who turned up and a special thank you to the ladies who came out to help and share their golf tips with the newer members. We will have another Tigers and Rabbits scramble on Sunday, 26th November at 1pm.

SEANÓIRÍ

Remember the date for your diary – Thursday, December 7th for Seanoiri AGM and Christmas Dinner.

45 CARDS

Card games for Christmas Hams (runners up get chickens!) are in full swing now for the long dark winter evenings in the run up to Christmas. Favoured times are Thursday evenings after Seanóirí golf and Sunday evenings at approx 5pm. No times are excluded however, and whenever six like-minded people are present in the clubhouse and the log-fire is fuelled up and burning brightly, take a seat, cast, shuffle and play – enjoy the friendly atmosphere and the light-hearted debate and discussion… let Bernie know who the winners are and best of luck to all. If you wish to be included in the informative WhatsApp group “6 for cards”, please text Clem on 086-8912769.
