St Catherines move into provincial semi-final

St Catherines 2-16 Ardmore 1-11 St Catherines had a good win over Ardmore in the AIB Munster JHC quarter-final at Fraher Field, Dungarvan on Saturday. The opening half was evenly contested with St Catherines favoured by the wind.

Kenny Murphy opened the scoring with Sean O'Donoghue replying from a free. Good play by Eoin Condon led to a Rory Galvin point. Ardmore were level from a Seamus Keating free. In the 8th minute Sean O'Donoghue with another free edged the winners ahead. Seamus Keating with a free levelled once more. The trend continued as the sides were level again at 0-4 and 0-5 apiece.

Matthew Mulcahy then edged the East Cork side ahead with Keating levelling again from a free. St Catherines then hit a purple patch and four points without reply from Sean O'Donoghue (2), Brian Mulcahy and Eoin Davis (free) had them 0-10 to 0-6 clear at the break.

CATHERINES IN CONTROL

On the resumption, Seamus Keating (free) and Ciaran Keating cut the lead to two points. Catherines done well from here. Kyle Wallace placed Eoin Condon whose effort was saved by Jack Walsh, the ball broke to Sean O'Donoghue who placed Matthew Mulcahy for a goal.

Further pressure saw Eoin Davis point a long range free as the Imokilly side were now 6 points ahead. Ardmore had a goal from James Flavin after good work by John O'Brien, the scoreline now standing at 1-12 to 1-9.

Brian Mulcahy and Eoin Davis (free) had points. Seamus Keating replied with two frees - 1-14 to 1-11 after 56 minutes. Late points from Sean O'Donoghue and Nathan Sheehan made it 1-16 to 1-11. Nathan Sheehan placed Brian Mulcahy for a late goal.

St Catherines now meet Ballinahin­ch (Tipperary) in the semi-final the weekend of November 19.
