CAPPOQUIN REGENERATION PROJECT

The Cappoquin Regeneration Project reached another milestone last week. Waterford City and County Council, in association the Cappoquin Regeneration Company, advertised Part 8 plan

ning processes for several projects in the town. These include a residential housing project in Upper Main Street and Green Street, the refurbishment of 3 town centre properties, a redevelopment of the Market Square, 2 new car parks at Twig Bog and a new access roadway to the Boathouse. These projects will go through the planning process over the next few months with decisions expected in September. The plans may be viewed by making an appointment with the customer services desk of Waterford City and County Council or on the Council’s website.

A video presentation of the Cappoquin Regeneration Projects is also available on the Waterford City and County Council Website under the Latest News heading. This is to provide information to the general public in lieu of a public meeting, which cannot be held at the present time. Further planning applications for the proposed walkway from the GAA field to Glenshelane Woods, the looped walk over the Old Railway Bridge and the construction of a Biodiversity Park will be made later in the year. A feasibility study of the development of a Blueway on the River Blackwater will also take place later in the year. These are indeed exciting times for Cappoquin, and over the coming years we will all see vast improvements in the town.

MAIN STREET IMPROVEMENTS

Over the last number of weeks, it is very noticeable to see all the painting and shop front replacements, which are taking place on Main Street. This has been made possible by Waterford City and County Council through the Town and Village Renewal Scheme which is providing more than €100,000 for the works involved. Many buildings have taken on a new look with the painting colours selected. All these works will significantly enhance Cappoquin town and we thank Waterford City and County Council for this assistance. We also wish to thank the local community and property owners for their participation in this scheme.

In addition to the above Cappoquin Community Development Company has funded for the 4th successive year the house-painting project. Ten House owners receive €300 each grant funding to paint the street façade of their home. The fund this year has been limited to houses outside of the Main Street and has again been fully subscribed. Since 2018 Cappoquin Community Development Company have grant funded 40 homes to be painted and we look forward to painting 10 homes again in 2022.
