OBITUARY Mary (Mamie) Ahern (née Griffin)

-

It is with profound sorrow and deep regret that we record the passing of Mary (Mamie) Ahern (nee Griffin), late of Ballycullane, Curraglass, Tallow, Co. Waterford peacefully in the tender and loving care of the staff at Marymount Hospice, Cork on Wednesday, September 30th.

Lying in repose at Aidan Walsh and Sons Funeral Home, Tallow, Rosary was recited on Thursday evening by Fr. B. O’Donovan P.P. in the presence of her loving family. On Friday evening funeral prayers were recited by Fr. O’Donovan in the presence of her loving family, relatives, neighbours and friends, before removal took place to St. Catherine’s Church in Glengoura. On arrival, her remains were received and blessed.

On Saturday morning during the funeral Mass, symbols representing Mary’s life were presented to the altar by Catherine Geary (deck of cards), Eileen Leahy (Pioneer book), Ann Griffin (sewing basket), Marion Ahern (flowers), Sean and Roisin Ahern (county newspaper) and Kathleen Griffin (Rosary beads), where Carrie Shanahan noted the significance of the items.

Readings during the Mass, celebrated by Fr. O’Donovan, were recited by her daughter-in-law Ann-Marie. A lovely selection of music and hymns were provided by Margaret and Mary Mulcahy and the Glengoura Parish Choir. Prayers of the faithful were read by Maura Bennett, Breda McCarthy and Michael Stevens. The Offertory gifts were presented to the altar by her husband Paddy and son Oliver.

Then, following Communion, Ellen O’Neill delivered a fitting eulogy recalling fond memories of Mary and the contribution she made in all their lives and acknowledging all the help and support that the family have received from friends, neighbours and the community during this difficult time.

Following the funeral Mass, burial took place in Conna Cemetery. Fr. O’Donovan officiated the graveside prayers, where Mary was laid to rest in the presence of her loving family, relatives and friends.

We extend deepest sympathy to her loving husband Paddy, daughter Marian, son Oliver, brother John Griffin and his partner Mary, daughter-in-law Ann-Marie, grandchildren Roisín, Seán and Aoife, nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, grand-nieces, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends. May she rest in peace.
