Next up for ATU Sligo is a final against Dundalk IT, who defeated ATU Sligo by a point in the Moynihan Cup final last March. Dundalk IT were semi-final winners over UCC (second XV) on Tuesday at Clonad, Co. Laois. The final is provisiona­lly scheduled for Tuesday next.

Shamrock Gaels are holding an AGM on Sunday

Shamrock Gaels GAA Club are holding their annual general meeting this coming Sunday, December 3, at the clubhouse in Shamrock Gaels Park (7pm start). “We would appeal to all members, players and supporters to attend the AGM – it is your chance to have your say in the running of the club,” said a club statement. “We always welcome new members,” the statement added.

The new manager will take over from Glen McDermott, who guided the club to this year’s Furey’s Coaches Senior Football League Division One title – a first since 1986. The club extends its sympathy to the Galvin family following the passing of Jenny Galvin. The Galvin family, who have a long associatio­n with Shamrock Gaels, sponsor the club’s annual U-20 Player of the Year award – in memory of Jenny’s son, Karl.

Raymond isn’t seeking another term as chair

Enniscrone’s Raymond Carden will not be seeking re-election as chairperso­n of Sligo LGFA for 2024. The west Sligo native, who has spent four years in the role, is not putting his name in the ring for another term at the upcoming Sligo LGFA annual general meeting which goes ahead on Monday, December 11. Ballymote’s Coláiste Muire have qualified for a provincial final. On Monday of this week they were two-point winners over St Brendan’s, Belmullet, 3-9 to 4-4, in a Connacht GAA Post Primary Schools Junior ‘D’ Football Championsh­ip semi-final. This game was played at the home of Bonniconlo­n GAA Club, with Vincent Neary as referee. Coláiste Muire will play Castlerea Community School (Roscommon) in the final on Monday week, December 11.

Also through to a Connacht final are the hurlers of Coláiste Iascaigh – on Tuesday next, December 5, they are scheduled to face Roscommon Community College in a Connacht GAA Post Primary Schools Junior ‘D’ Hurling Championsh­ip final. This game is set for the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence, Bekan (11.30am).

U-20 finals at ‘A’ and ‘B’ level this weekend

Sligo GAA’s club season comes to an end this weekend with the staging of the U-20

‘A’ Football Championsh­ip final and the U-20 ‘B’ Championsh­ip decider. The ‘B’ final goes ahead tomorrow, Friday, with Castleconn­or taking on Tourlestra­ne at Fr Kevin Brehony Park, Keash (8pm). On Saturday night, also under lights, Eastern Harps play Drumcliffe-Rosses Point at Tourlestra­ne GAA Club’s facilities (7pm start).

Away loss for the All-Stars in Super League

EJ Sligo All-Stars suffered a sixth defeat of the 2023-2024 campaign – from eight games in all competitio­ns – when they lost away to Templeogue, 95-90, in a Basketball Ireland InsureMyVa­n.ie Men’s Super League fixture at Nord Anglia Internatio­nal School, Leopardsto­wn, on Saturday last.

This was a fifth loss in seven Men’s Super League games for EJ Sligo All-Stars who appeared to have stabilised their stuttering season on the weekend before last when they defeated Pyroble Killester at the Mercy College. Templeogue had recorded just one win in their seven games prior to taking on EJ Sligo All-Stars. EJ Sligo All-Stars were

25-22 ahead at the end of the first period and had a threepoint lead at half-time, 46-43. In a relatively even contest, the hosts had a better third period which saw them take a four-point advantage into the fourth period, 69-65.

EJ Sligo All-Stars almost matched their opponents’ tally in the fourth period, scoring 25 points compared to 26, but Templeogue held on.

The top scorers for EJ Sligo All-Stars against Templeogue were Tom Child (24 points), Christian Williams (17 points) and John Williams Jr (16 points). Leading the way for Templeogue was the excellent Lorcan Murphy, who supplied 44 points. Next up for EJ Sligo All-Stars is an away fixture on Saturday week, December 9, against Kerry’s Flexachem KCYMS at Killorglin Sports Complex (7.15pm).

Belfast Star are the only unbeaten side in the Men’s Super League, they have eight wins from eight games, with Maree and Irish Guide Dogs Ballincoll­ig@MTU on six wins each. The Pat Duffy Men’s National Cup quarter-finals take place this weekend.

Sligo Rovers are issued licenses for 2024 season

Sligo Rovers Football Club have been issued with club licenses to compete in next year’s League of Ireland season. The Bit O’Red have been given a license for the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division and the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division.

The Football Associatio­n of Irelancd confirmed that club licenses were awarded for all three League of Ireland divisions (Men’s Premier Division, Men’s First Division and Women’s Premier Division) by the Independen­t Licensing Committee.

This is the first time that the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division has been subjected to the licensing process, with 11 clubs (including Rovers) awarded licenses for the division.
