‘TOO BIG A RISK’

- BY SIMON MULLOCK

TIM KRUL believes the season is probably over.

Norwich’s Dutch international keeper has seen football bosses in Holland call a halt to the current campaign in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.

And the 32-year-old fears that any return to action in the coming weeks runs the risk of allowing the disease to continue to spread.

Krul said: “I’m not sure if we will be safe enough from the virus by the time they want to start the season again.

“Am I scared to catch this virus? Scared is not the right word. I am concerned – and not so much for myself, but for others. When I see some of the horrific pictures in hospitals, I realise what this disease can do, in particular to older people.”

Norwich boss Daniel Farke (above) and his Canaries were bottom of the Premier League, six points from safety when the season was halted.

“If a resumption isn’t possible, then decisions will have to be made on whether to use the current table to decide on final places or void the campaign,” added Krul.

“We have nine matches to avoid relegation.

“We have fixtures against teams that are six points above us and we know that we need to win those games – otherwise it’s over.”

NORWICH have defended their decision to place some of their non-playing staff on furlough during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Canaries’ chief operating officer Ben Kensell said: “The decision we made was in the best interests of the club and its staff.

“We’ll stick to our guns and we believe we are doing it for the right reasons. We’ve got the best owners in football.”
