SEPTEMBER SUNSHINE!

O’brien ace set to see off Happily

- BY RYAN MCELLIGOTT

SEPTEMBER is taken to stay unbeaten in the Breast Cancer Research Debutante Stakes at the Curragh.

In a cracking edition of this Group 2, Aidan O’brien fields two of the best fillies seen out so far this season.

Interestingly Ryan Moore has sided with Happily, who dominated the Group 3 Silver Flash Stakes at Leopardstown last month.

However, preference is for September who returns to action following her victory in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The form of the Chesham has since been boosted by the efforts of runner-up Nyaleti, who was impressive at Group 3 level last time. In addition, September won very well on slow ground when making her debut at Leopardstown in June.

The day’s other Group 2 contest is the Futurity Stakes and this could see Jim Bolger’s Theobald notch up his second win.

He looked a fine prospect when he made a successful debut at Leopardstown and he has done nothing wrong in two subsequent starts.

Over a trip that was well short of his best, he showed up well to chase home the high-class Actress in the Anglesey Stakes here last month.

He then stepped up to seven furlongs for the Tyros Stakes and posted a good effort to take second behind The Pentagon.

There doesn’t appear to be anything of their calibre in the line up and Theobald should take beating.

Theobald’s trainer Jim Bolger might also land the Group 3 Royal Whip Stakes with Qatari Hunter. despite the fact he hasn’t run for almost a year.

The Group 3 Curragh Stakes has quite an open look it and a chance is taken on the maiden Goodthingstaketime.

Elsewhere, improving Pearl Of The West is the choice in the fillies handicap, while Storm Ranger makes most appeal in the apprentice rider’s handicap.

Threeandfourpence stands out in the opening contest, a maiden for unraced juveniles.
