SHAME TO SEE FALL OF ROVERS

-

SOMEONE reminded me I played for Blackburn the other day. I put them right immediately: “Well, I was there.”

I think I played three games, didn’t score but at least beat Everton. And lost 5-3 to Manchester United in a Carling Cup quarter final, where we actually pulled the score back to 4-3 and looked like pulling off a bit of a shock.

It’s incredible to think that was only eight years ago; for some Rovers fans it will seem like a lifetime away.

We had a very good team then, one that could hold its own against United, and excite the fans. One that could attract an almost 60,000 crowd too.

Nowadays, they’re lucky to get 10,000. It’s a tragedy really, because the legacy of Jack Walker has been squandered, and the people of Blackburn – who have such a great football heritage - have been let down.

The visit of Manchester United though, gives them a chance to get a bit of momentum. There will be 30,000 at Ewood Park this weekend, and it will give the fans something to shout about.

If Rovers can put on a bit of a performance, show the supporters there is some life in the team, then who knows, it may just provide the lift that will get them out of the relegation zone, and start a revivial.

And before any of their fans ask what do I know, because I was the worst player in their history, I’d just point out I can’t be your worst player, if I never played .....
