Big e-Up!s to GoCar

-

IRELAND’S largest car sharing company, GoCar, have recently welcomed 10 fully electric Volkswagen e-Up!s to their fleet, offering customers a sustainable, compact city car solution.

Available as a ‘pay as you go’ option from a little as €10 per hour, the award winning e-Up! gives customers an electric range of up to 253kms.

An intuitive city car with a dynamic drive system, the e-Up! comes complete with many driver assistance systems as standard, including a rear view camera, park distance, control and cruise control.

GoCar’s fleet of e-Up!s can be found in many popular locations across Dublin and Ireland including Merrion Square, Raheny, Skerries, Wicklow and Tipperary. Volkswagen Ireland’s director, Alan Bateson, said: “We are delighted to partner with GoCar Ireland to expand their electric offering to their customers to include the award winning e-Up! car.”

VOLVO EX30 LCA has the lowest carbon footprint of any fully electric car from their range to date.

The life cycle assessment

(LCA) report showed that the award winning car has a total carbon footprint of 23 tonnes per 200,000 km – 60 per cent less than the XC40 ICE (petrol).

The report focused on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and the car’s life cycle, starting with the extraction and refining of raw materialse.

Using wind-based electricity to charge the EX30 reduces the carbon footprint by 42 per cent.

This underlines the need to accelerate investments in renewable energy infrastructure globally for electric cars to reach their full climate potential.

Jonas Otterheim, head of climate action at Volvo Cars said: “Transitioning to electric cars is key to limiting climate change, but increased transparency about its chal- lenges is needed to reduce their emissions even further.

“By studying the EX30’s carbon footprint and identifying its primary materials and processes, we aim to provide valuable insights that can help guide decisions in our company towards becoming more sustainable, as well as amongst the wider industry.”

The EX30 was voted Small SUV/Crossover of the Year in the News UK Motor Awards, Carwow Car of the Year 2024 as well as the Eco Warrior of the Year in the TopGear.com Awards 2023 and Car of the Year by The Sun.
