Gardai launch probe after horror assault in car park

A Garda spokesman said: “On the evening of Sunday 17th March 2024, emergency medical services were called to treat a juvenile female in her teens on North Wall Quay, Dublin 1.

“The girl was taken to the Mater University Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. An investigat­ion surroundin­g the circumstan­ces of the sudden death is being conducted.”

DOZENS of mourners attended a funeral service yesterday of the former tearaway child criminal who was nicknamed the ‘Little General’.

The mass for Glen Keegan was held in his native Tallaght in

Dublin yesterday morning.

His coffin was brought to The Sacred Heart Church in Killinarde­n in a horse-drawn carriage – with a floral tribute bearing his nickname ‘Keego’.

Keegan (42) died at his home in Tallaght last week. It is suspected he choked to death on a chip.

He was infamous from a young age and earned his nickname after he embarked on a ‘one-man crimewave’ in Dublin in the 80s and 90s.

He was described as a young version of gangster Martin ‘The General’ Cahill, who was involved in major robberies and other serious crimes in the same era.

Although Keegan was not involved in serious criminalit­y, he was prolific at stealing cars and joyriding.

GARDAÍ have launched an investigat­ion after a man was left fighting for his life – following a horror sword attack.

The victim, who is in his 30s, is critically ill in hospital in Cork and detectives were last night hunting his attacker.

The horrific attack happened in Cobh on Friday evening – and left the victim with life-changing injuries.

It is understood the victim, who was attacked in a car park on the Newtown Road, suffered significan­t injuries to his lower leg – with significan­t damage to arteries and veins.

He said: “Gardaí are investigat­ing a serious assault that occurred in Cobh, County Cork, on the evening of Friday 15th March 2024.

“At approximat­ely 8:55pm, a man in his early 30s was seriously injured during the course of an assault in a car-park on the Newtown Road.

“The man was taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment and he is currently in a critical condition.

“An incident room has been establishe­d at Cobh Garda Station and an investigat­ion is continuing.

“Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dashcam) and were travelling on the Newtown Road between 8:45pm and 9:15pm are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
