A COMMUNITY was in shock last night following the death of a 15-year-old boy after a swimming accident.

Tragic Killian Casey, who got into difficulties in Lough Sheelin, Co Cavan on Tuesday, was airlifted to Temple Street Children’s hospital in Dublin but never regained consciousness and passed away on Thursday evening.

Tributes were yesterday paid to the football-mad schoolboy, with his heartbroken father Martin describing his son as his “forever friend”.

Dozens of people have expressed their condolences to the Casey family. Local Fine Gael councillor Trevor Smith said the local area was reeling after the death of the popular teenager.

He added: “I would know Killian well because our young lad played football along with him.

“His father Martin and mother Fiona are in our thoughts and prayers and the community would be in shock after this.

“Killian was a typical teenager, a rural teenager, big into farming and his football.

“We hoped and prayed he would pull through but he didn’t, he lost his fight yesterday evening.”

Others paying tribute to the teen described him as “a beautiful lad” and a “fine young man” with a “gentle soul”. One person said: “Killian was a lovely young man and will be missed by so many.”

Another added: “Heaven has a good one, a lovely, decent, respectful and happy young man… always had a

smile and a friendly word… may he rest in peace.”

Yesterday a man in his 60s became the sixth drowning victim in recent days when he his body was found off Dollymount Strand, Dublin. He was pronounced dead at the scene after rescuers tried to revive him
