Mum’s always the word here

- BY KATIE GALLAGHER

THE Irish mammy has a place in all our hearts but across the water the British mum could soon become extinct.

The Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust recently announced the use of the word “mother” is to be replaced by more “inclusive terminology” and it’s not mammy.

Apparently the new terminology is to address “health inequalities” for “marginalised and disadvantaged groups”.

From now on the Trust’s maternity services will be known as “perinatal”, pregnant women will be referred to as “birthing parents”, while breast-feeding will become “chest-feeding”.

I’d say a belt of the wooden spoon will await you on March 14 if you wish the woman who brought you into this world a “Happy Birthing Parent’s Day”.

MICHAEL Fassbender is in talks to star in a new Netflix assassin movie called The Killer.

The Irish actor is reportedly in the process of settling a deal to act in the drama directed by David Fincher, best known as the mastermind behind major hit movies Fight Club, Se7en and Gone Girl.

While the reports in the Hollywood Reporter suggest the deal is still coming together, it is understood Fassbender would star as an assassin who begins to psychologically crack as he develops a conscience. All the while, his clients continue to demand his skills.

The role should come with ease to the Kerry-born Hollywood star, who also starred in Assassin’s Creed.

LESS than a third of worldwide consumers feel safe shopping online yet more than half are doing so more frequently than before the pandemic, a study has revealed.

The study by internet security company ESET revealed that only 29% of consumers worldwide feel “very secure” when shopping online, yet 61% of all consumers are shopping online more often than they were before the COVID-19 pandemic.

The research also shows that increased online shopping is here to stay, even after the pandemic is over;

And 40% of consumers said they expect to be shopping online more post-pandemic than they are currently.

BEDDING, towels and cleaning supplies are among the donations made to Ireland’s first wildlife hospital.

The products from Tayto Park have been given to Wildlife Rehabilitation Ireland – a new non-forprofit organisation that opened in Garlow Cross in Meath last week.

Tayto Park Assistant Park and Zoo Manager Aisling Power said: “Everyone here is delighted to be able to help and support Wildlife Rehabilitation Ireland by donating supplies to their first wildlife hospital.

“Every donation counts for the continuation of this vital service of treating sick and injured native wildlife with the hope of returning them back to the wild.”
