Fear stopping calls to doctor
ALMOST two-thirds of parents who needed medical attention for their children decided not to access it because of fears over coronavirus.
The Cupid National Parents Survey, out yesterday, said 34% who needed medical attention for their kid, but 22% shelved plans.
And 56% of those who accessed care had a face-to-face GP consultation, while 49% had a video or telephone chat.
Project leads Dr Emma Nicholson and Dr Therese Mcdonnell, from the UCD School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems, said: “This has implications for public health messaging as the Covid-19 pandemic plays out.”
ONE more person has died of Covid-19 in Ireland and 11 new cases detected as the world marked six months since the virus emerged.
There have now been 1,736 deaths and 25,473 cases here.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said: “We know more about this virus and how to limit its spread than we did six months ago.
“It is very important that we keep up the national effort to reduce the impact of this disease in our country.”
By midnight on Monday, 429,698 tests have been carried out here.
Over the past week, 24,607 tests were carried out with just 116 positive results – a rate of 0.5%.
