ANA NOW IN TOP FLIGHT

- BY MIKE WALTERS

RUSSIA’S Anastasia Dobromyslova announced the arrival of girl power at the PDC darts world championship by warning: “All the pressure is on the men.”

Dobromyslova claimed it would be the best day of her life apart from giving birth and getting married if she beats Geordie Ryan Joyce at Alexandra Palace next month.

The draw handed Dobromyslova, a three-times

Lakeside ladies’ world champion, a potential shot at world No.8 Simon Whitlock.

And the mum from Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, was happy to pile the pressure on her male rivals in the expanded 96-strong field, which includes two women.

She said: “Will all the pressure be on the men? I hope so! Pressure is all in your head and if you’re drawn against me you’ll have to deal with it.

“I want to do myself justice and play my best, but what’s the worst

CRICKET thing that could happen? I’ve got nothing to lose.

“To beat a man at the world championship would be one of the best days of my life apart from having a baby and getting married.”

Lisa Ashton (below), the other female qualifier, was handed a difficult first-round tie against Jan Dekker of Holland, with the winner facing former World Masters champion Mervyn King.

Reigning champion Rob Cross (top, with Dobromyslova) will begin his title defence against either Jeffrey de Zwaan or Indian qualifier Nitin Kumar and admits he will have butterflies.

He said: “I will be nervous in my first match – especially when you get introduced for the walk-on. The world championship has a different feel to any other tournament.

“Everyone keeps themselves to themselves in the practice rooms – no laughs, it’s all serious and it all matters.”
