It all began with the Fab Four’s invasion of the US in 1964. Beatlemani­a opened the doors for British bands to have the same success. They went on to have 19 No1 albums and 20 No1 singles in America, still the most for any band.

Mick and the lads were the top of the list of those who followed in the Beatles’ wake. As well as No1 singles and albums, they are still one of the biggest live acts and will tour there again next year.

The boy from Maryhill in Glasgow had a No1 in 1966 with Sunshine Superman and followed it with big hits including Mellowyell­ow and Hurdy Gurdy Man. A British invasion in July 1983 saw seven British acts in the US charts but Simon Le Bon and his band got the biggest screams. Their success was helped by new music station MTV.

He got to No1 in the US with Wham! but also went supernova as a solo star. His debut solo album Faith reached No1 and sold 25million copies. He had a string of No1 singles in the US but his success dwindled after he came out as gay.

They are one of only five rock bands with two original studio albums selling more than 10million copies in the US. Pyromania reached No2 and Hysteria in 1987 sold 12million in the US and more than 25million worldwide. His haul of nine US No1 singles sees him share second place with Paul Mccartney and Usher for most solo male singles stateside. He’s done Las Vegas and there’s no bigger British male star.

The 70s belonged to Led Zep, who changed the way people watched music with massive shows and six US No1 albums. ROD STEWART

He topped the US charts with Maggie May in 1971. He’s stayed at the top and if you can afford it, he’s got his own Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace right now.
