Trump on calls for his head

DONALD Trump has awarded himself an A+ for his presidency and said if he is impeached everyone in the US would become very poor.

In a rambling interview, he suggested his achievements in the White House mean he should not be charged with crimes and forced out of the role.

The US President said: “I don’t know how you can impeach somebody who has done a great job.”

Asked if he reckons Democrats would try to oust him if they regain control of Congress at the midterm elections in November, he said: “If I ever got impeached, I think the market would crash, I think everybody would be very poor.”

The Republican then pointed at his head as he smugly said: “Because without this thinking, you’d see numbers that you wouldn’t believe in reverse.”

Several Democrats have raised the prospect of Trump being impeached and removed from office after his former lawyer Michael Cohen implicated him in election campaign crimes.

Cohen, 51, pleaded guilty this week to breaking campaign laws in relation to money paid to porn star Stormy Daniels, 39, and Playboy model Karen Mcdougal, 47, who both claim they had an affair with 72-year-old Trump in 2006 after his wife had just given birth. The cash was to prevent them from going public with their allegations during the 2016 presidential election. The President is also part of the probe into alleged Russian efforts to influence the vote in Trump’s favour. During the interview on Fox News yesterday, he denied wrongdoing and said the claims against him do not amount to “high crimes” – the standard needed for impeachment.

When asked to rate his performance as President, he said: “I give myself an A+. I don’t think any president has ever done what I have done.

“Biggest tax cuts in history... The economy is the best it has ever been. The only thing I’m doing badly in is the press doesn’t cover me fairly.” He suggested people facing prosecution should not be allowed to co-operate with the government to get a reduced sentence as Cohen did. Trump also refused to rule out pardoning former aide Paul Manafort, convicted this week of fraud.
