ORGANISERS of the Liam Miller tribute match have confirmed all 45,000 tickets for the event have been sold.

They went on sale online at 10am on Monday and within 26 hours every pass for the game at Pairc Ui Chaoimh was snapped up.

The match was initially scheduled to take place at Cork’s Turner Cross but owing to its 7,485 capacity, the tickets were sold out within minutes. The GAA approved the usage of the revamped Pairc for the game, after initial reluctance which sparked a nationwide outcry.

Organising committee chair Michael O’flynn expressed his delight at the overwhelming response. He also thanked the GAA for softening their initial stance. Mr Liam Miller died in February O’flynn said: “We would like to thank everyone again for their fabulous support.

“It’s a ringing endorsement of the GAA’S decision to donate the use of their stadium and we thank them wholeheartedly.

“This will be a unique sporting occasion in Cork, not only because of the calibre of the soccer stars who will be taking part, but also because it will feature both soccer and GAA sports at the same time.

“It will be a fantastic tribute to Liam who was one of Cork’s sporting heroes and a great celebration of sport in Cork.” BEYONCE dedicates her show to Aretha Franklin, who is “gravely ill” with cancer, as she performs in the Queen of Soul’s home town of Detroit.

The Halo singer, 36, on stage with husband Jay-z, said: “This show is dedicated to Aretha. We love you and thank you.” Hospice carers have been brought in to the home of Respect star Aretha, 76, as family were told “death is imminent”. Yesterday fellow legend Stevie Wonder, 68, paid her a visit to say his final farewells. A source said: “Stevie was determined to speak to Aretha one last time.” Aretha has battled cancer for years and her weight has fallen to six stone. Michael O’flynn and Roy Keane
