DOHERTY IS SURE WOLVES CAN ROCK THE ROBINS

- BY BRENDAN M LOUGHLIN

CMATT DOHERTY believes Wolves have “felt the heat” this month despite continuing to boss the Championship.

After sweeping teams away in November, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have won three games 1-0 and drawn the other two to go 10 games unbeaten.

It gives them an eightpoint lead over fellow promotion hopefuls Bristol City ahead of tonight’s clash at Ashton Gate.

But defender Doherty (above) insists it has been far from straightforward. He said: “We were put under pressure against Birmingham – it might not have looked difficult because they didn’t score, but we still felt the heat.

“And we rolled our sleeves up at Millwall in our 2-2 draw on Boxing Day.

“We’re really looking forward to Bristol. There’s a bit of a gap, but they’re not that far behind us.”

Wolves skipper Danny Batth says the Robins’ emergence as promotion rivals is no surprise to him.

Batth, who scored late on to salvage a 3-3 draw in the reverse fixture, said: “There is always a bit of extra bite to the Bristol City game.

“They have some quality players and a very good boss. The 3-3 game almost felt like a win for us.”

City are flying after their famous EFL Cup win over Manchester United and boss Lee Johnson wants fans to generate another wall of noise this evening.

He said: “We’re going to need a similar type of atmosphere to the United game because Wolves are a top, top side.”
