- BY GORDON DEEGAN news@irishmirror.ie

A MOTHER of 10 has been banned from every pub in a town after assaulting a woman who shook hands with her husband. Judge Patrick Durcan said Kathleen Donovan, who was celebrating her 42nd birthday at Halloween last year, engaged in “appalling behaviour”. Now she won’t be able to go for a drink in Ennistymon in Co Clare until September 20, 2018. Donovan admitted she attacked Michelle Garrihy in Mcinerney’s pub. The mother-of-three said foul-mouthed Donovan called her a “w **** s b ***** d” before pulling her hair, knocking her to the ground and hitting her. Defence solicitor John Casey said the accused’s husband Martin Donovan brought his wife to a pub to watch him play pool with his friends to celebrate her birthday. Mr Casey said his client was upset by the way she was treated by her husband. Donovan, of Clancy Park in Ennis, Co Clare, had drink taken and took her frustration out on Ms Garrihy after reading the situation wrong when she had shaken hands. Mr Casey said: “Donovan accepts Ms Garrihy did no wrong on the night.” In evidence, Ms Garrihy said after pulling her down, the thug called out “Boys, boys, boys” and her two sons came over and continuously kicked her on the head while she was on the ground “until I was unconscious”. She was brought by ambulance to University Hospital Galway and kept in overnight. Mr Casey said his client had no previous convictions. He added: “She regrets what happened and apologises and has never been in trouble before.” Judge Durcan said Donovan, who was also fined €500, was lucky she did not have any previous convictions “or she would be going by Paddywagon express to Limerick prison”.
