what to do

A BRILLIANT bingo-wings busting exercise is ‘side walking planks’, according to celebrity personal trainer Nadya Fairweather.

In a high plank position (see picture), start with feet together and hands touching each other. Step out your right hand and right foot at the same time. Bring the left foot and hand in, so that they are back to touching each other. If you have enough space go to the right for 12 steps, then back to the left for 12 more. Rest for 30 seconds and repeat. If space is an issue, take one step right then back to the left, always moving your hand and foot at the same time. Keep your bottom in

line with your head.

what to eat

YOUR diet is key to toning your arm muscles, too, says nutritionist Lola Biggs. Try drinking a berry smoothie before exercising, as it is a great way to boost your metabolism. They’re high in antioxidants, help burn fat and can improve blood flow. Grapefruit is also high in the phytochemicals that stimulate the production of hormones, which help us break down fat. Make sure you’re eating plenty of B vitamins, too, as they have a key role in utilising energy from the food we eat and prevent the energy drops that can drive us to the cookie jar! You can find them in milk, eggs, whole grains and leafy greens. Plus, supplements can also ensure you’ve got it covered — try Together Health’s vegan B Complex with Bioflavonoids (€9.60, evergreen.ie).
